- Crush or mince the garlic.
- Set aside half of the onion and then slice the rest into half-rings (see Tip).
- Cut the Romano pepper into strips.
Tip: the garlic and the rest of the onion will be served raw, however if preferred you can slice all of the onion here and add it to the frying pan in the next step.
- Melt a knob of butter in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Fry the Romano pepper with the onion for 1 - 2 minutes.
- Add the burger and fry for 3 - 4 minutes per side.
- Grate the cheese directly onto the burger and fry for 1 more minute.
- Meanwhile, dice the tomato and finely chop the rest of the onion.
- In a bowl, combine the tomato with the garlic, the onion, the extra virgin olive oil and the balsamic vinegar.
- Season to taste with salt and pepper, then set aside.
- In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise with the basil crème.
- Cut open the hamburger bun and spread with the basil mayonnaise.
- Top with the burger and the fried vegetables, along with some of the salsa and arugula as preferred.
- Transfer the rest of the arugula to the salsa and toss well to combine, then serve alongside the burger.
