Cooking Steps

Prepare the batter
1
  • Take the butter out of the fridge and cut it into cubes, then allow to come up to room temperature.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Line a 20 x 20cm baking tin or square oven dish with parchment paper (see Tip).
  • In a large bowl, combine the cake mix with the water, butter and eggs. Keep mixing until the batter is smooth (see Tip).

Tip: if you have a mixer or electric whisk, use this to mix the batter for about 4 minutes on a low setting.

Bake the brownies
2
  • Roughly chop the peanuts. Stir half of the peanuts and half of the dark chocolate chips through the batter.
  • Pour the batter into the baking tin. Scatter the rest of the dark chocolate chips over the top.
  • Bake in the oven for 20 - 25 minutes. The brownies are done when you see cracks starting to form on the surface.
Serve
3
  • When it's ready, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for about 5 minutes (see Tip).
  • Cut the brownie into about 9 pieces, then transfer to a serving platter.
  • Drizzle the salted caramel sauce on top and garnish with the rest of the peanuts.

Tip: check if the brownie is done by sticking a skewer in it. It's fine if it's still a little bit sticky, but if the batter is very wet, then put the brownie back in the oven for a few more minutes.
