- Boil plenty of water in a pot or saucepan and cook the rice for 10 minutes or until done, then drain and set aside.
- Meanwhile, crush or mince the garlic.
- Slice the onion into half-rings.

- Heat a light drizzle of olive oil in a wok or a deep frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Fry the steak strips for 4 minutes, then remove from the pan and set aside.
- Heat a light drizzle of olive oil in the same pan over medium-high heat.
- Fry the onion with the garlic, the mangetout, the vegetable mix and half of the sambal for 4 - 6 minutes.
- Heat a light drizzle of olive oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the egg, seasoning to taste with salt and pepper.
- Transfer the rice to the vegetables, then add the soy sauce, the ketjap and the steak strips.
- Mix well to combine and fry for 1 - 2 more minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Turn off the heat and taste, then add more soy sauce and/or ketjap as preferred.
- Serve the fried rice on deep plates.
- Top with the egg and drizzle with the rest of the sambal, as well as more ketjap as preferred.
- Garnish with the crispy onions to finish.
