Cooking Steps

Prepare
1
  • Preheat the oven to 220°C.
  • Peel or wash the potatoes and cut into fries of 1cm thickness.
  • Transfer to a bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper, then toss well to coat.
  • Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 30 - 35 minutes, tossing halfway.
Make the slaw
2
  • In a bowl, combine the white wine vinegar with the sugar and a pinch of salt.
  • Add the slaw mix, then toss well to combine. Set aside until serving, stirring occasionally.
  • In a small bowl, combine the smoky tomato ketchup with the mayonnaise (see Tip). Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Health Tip: if you're watching your calorie intake, use just half of the mayonnaise.

Fry the meatballs
3
  • Slice the onion and the Romano pepper into thin half-rings.
  • Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat and fry the meatballs for 3 - 4 minutes until evenly browned.
  • Stir in the vegetables and fry for 2 - 3 more minutes, then cover the pan and allow to stew for 4 - 5 minutes.
Serve
4
  • Roughly chop the parsley.
  • Serve all the elements separately at the table: the meatballs, fried vegetables, hamburger buns, smoky ketchup mayo, slaw and parsley.
  • Allow everyone to build their own burger as preferred.
  • Serve the fries alongside.
