- Preheat the oven to 170ºC.
- Take the butter out of the fridge, cut into cubes and allow to reach room temperature.
- Pour the cake mix into a large bowl and beat the eggs in another bowl.
- Add the butter, 5 tbsp sugar and the beaten eggs to the cake mix and use an electric whisk or mixer to mix it into a smooth batter.
- Pour the batter into a greased round cake tin.
- Place in the centre of the oven and bake for 40 - 45 minutes (see Tip).
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool down completely.
- Meanwhile, slice the strawberries.
- In a large bowl, use an electric whisk or mixer to whip the cream with 1 tbsp sugar until thick and firm.
Tip: after 45 minutes, check whether the cake is ready by piercing it with a skewer. The cake is done if the skewer comes out clean.
- Slice the cake horizontally so that you get two layers.
- Spread half of the whipped cream over the bottom layer of the cake and add half of the strawberries, then gently place the second cake layer on top.
- Coat the second layer with the rest of the whipped cream and decorate with the rest of the strawberries.
